For every deal the Czech Cushman & Wakefield Retail team transacted in 2021, an oak tree will grow in Prague’s Cibulka park.
Within the firm’s ESG strategy, there is a clear focus on our own actions, aiming at reducing our impact on the environment. As part of these, we go more and more digital every year, reducing the amount of paper we use in doing our business. And to further care for trees as a crucial component of our surroundings, we decided to take new action.
In 2021, the Czech Cushman & Wakefield Retail team transacted 227 deals. The number of oak trees we recently planted was 250, giving every one of our transactions more meaning and value.
For this initiative we chose a part of the Lesopark Cibulka park in Prague 5 damaged by bark beetles. In association with Lesy hl. m. Prahy (Prague’s forestry company), we thus contributed to restoring the original beauty of this wonderful forest park.
Our oak (Quercus Petraea) seedlings will grow up to 20-40 metres and will play an essential role in securing the well-balanced biodiversity of the area, also providing home for nuthatches and squirrels.
Moreover, our 250 trees will absorb the yearly CO2 produce of 23 cars. Count with us: an average car produces 1,620 kg of CO2 a year, and an average tree absorbs 167 kg of CO2 a year.
And one more benefit, this time for well-being and the team spirit of our colleagues: we had a chance to wake up early morning, spend time together outdoors and do a bit of useful exercise, learn something new and get to know each other better.
Next year, we are planning to follow up. With the aim to enlarge our green footprint, our mission is to plant not one, but two trees per every deal we close.
